About

My name is Sharon Monis and I'm a classical pianist, composer, conductor, and in recent years also musictherapist. Born in 1976 in Israel, I started studying piano at the age of 7. Moving to Venezuela in 1984, I took piano lessons with concert pianist and composer Carlos Duarte and pianist Arnaldo Pizzolante, along with music theory classes at the Juan José Landaeta Conservatory in Caracas. During this time, I participated in master-classes and concerts developing my pianistic qualities.

In 1993, I moved back to Israel to continue my studies in Piano, Conducting and Composition at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, where I obtained my Bachelor and Master Degrees. My domain in these three fields Is thanks to my teachers, among them: the pianists Irina Berkovich and Zecharia Plavin, the conductor Mendi Rodan and the composer Menachem Zur.

In 2006, I decided to initiate a PhD. in Didactics of the Musical Expression at the Autonomus University of Barcelona (UAB), Spain. I studied the field of the artistic-educative composition, specifically Béla Bartók´s Mikrokosmos with the guidance of the Rumanian composer Sergiu Shapira, receiving afterwards the Cum Laude Mention for my research.

In 2017, Dinsic and Brotons&Mercadal Publishers in Spain, published many of my compositions being some of them selected to be part of the repertoire of the International Academy of Music of Solsona (Spain). Other works are available through UCLA Music Library.

In 2018, I created S&R, an editorial that promotes and protects my musical works and offers an available sheet music to the public as well as a personal project called the Gisel Festival of Music which exposes my works as well as other women composers´ piano works.

I am an active chamber music pianist and instrumental ensembles and choir conductor. My performance and compositional work expresses my feelings and thoughts, mixed by styles and cultures. Also active as a teacher, I teach piano, singing and composition, as a way of life and a valuable expression, guiding my students to develop their creativity and genuiness. In the last years I dedicated myself to the fields of: women composers work, piano didactics, composition for educational puposes and music as a healing tool.

My interest in the discipline of healing through music has led me to study, and later obtain, a Master in Music Therapy from the University of Barcelona, course 2021-2023. There I found a special preference for the clinical practice of Music Therapy which has led me to an internship in palliative care. At the same time, I also included to my training different certificate studies such as: Holistic Psychology, Natural Therapies of Bioenergetics, Mindfullness and Naturopathy, which today enriches my practice in the field of therapy and music education.
